Artists for Water 2024

The words Swim Drink Fish are the three pillars of a healthy watershed. If you can’t swim, drink, or fish, then your waters are imperilled. These three powerful words are the indicators of restoring and protecting your local waters.

What We Do

  • Have you ever asked the question “can I swim here?” The Swim guide has the answer.

Swim Guide is your one stop shop for the latest water quality and weather results of your favourite beaches. Dive in to the Swim Guide >

  • Swim Drink Fish has set up multiple community Water Monitoring Hubs to equip communities with the tools, skills and resources to monitor their waters. Learn more >

  • Everyone has a Watermark. Since 2015 The Watermark Project collects and archives stories about the water. The aim is to give a voice to every body of water to help protect that waterbody. Learn more >

  • Blue Flag is an award program for environmentally-friendly beaches, boats, and marinas.

Swim Drink Fish works closely with Blue Flag International to make sure your local Blue Flag destination meets the same standards used across the world. Learn more >

How We Do It

Our Advocacy

We use the tools of a diverse group of passionate water lovers with the same goal in mind: swimmable, drinkable, fishable water for everyone. Our vision has never wavered, and that’s why the past is powering our present and the future.

As we continue to look forward with people powering us there. We put the work in at the water’s edge in communities around the globe, so we can get a seat at the table when it comes to important decisions about your waterways. We are committed to building relationships and interconnectedness with all communities through engagement and partnership.

Our apps and programs connect communities with the water and with other people. We teach communities to monitor the health of their water.

CONNECT:

The first step is connection, go down to your favourite water spot to connect, learn, and observe. Visit a Blue Flag beach near you.

COLLECT:

Collect by becoming a community scientist with one of our Water Quality Monitoring hubs, or by doing your own data connection through Swim Guide's pollution report.

SHARE:

Share, by sharing your Watermark. We all have a Watermark and by sharing your story, you can help protect the waters you love.

RESTORE:

You can help Restore by getting involved or donating to the efforts around restoration projects.

  • “Supporting Swim Drink Fish has been an eye opening experience, we get to see in real time exactly where our support is going and we are constantly learning more about the problems and solutions as they emphasize education, awareness and most importantly action!”

    Diana Olsen, Inner Beach Co.

  • "We are so proud of our work with Swim Drink Fish and supporting their goal of ensuring we all have access to safe clean water. Water is vital to our health and has been central to recreational enjoyment for many Canadians for generations."

Margaret Hudson, President and CEO Burnbrae Farms Limited

  • "We donate 5 cents from the sale of every can of our beer to Swim Drink Fish. Something in the Water Brewing Co. is based on the belief that beer is best enjoyed on or near the water. The dock, the pool, the beach; these are the precious places where memories are made and we wanted to support that in our own way."

Steve Waugh, Co-Founder, Something in the Water
